I am a landscape designer and gardener with degrees in Landscape Architecture and Earth and Atmospheric Science from Mississippi State University. My research area of expertise is the use of geographic information systems (GIS) to support landscape conservation design and planning. I have sixteen years of experience in landscape contracting, including work as a crew leader (1990 – 1999) and as a sole proprietor and landscape contractor (1999 – 2006) in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill metro area of North Carolina.
Mission Statement: My intention is to use my talent and skill to help society confront the global crises of biodiversity decline. In this effort, my belief is that every decision made on the land matters, whether it involves a residential back yard, a public plaza, a partnership between multiple state and national level organizations, or international treaties. Whether as a teacher, researcher, or practitioner, my wish is to work with a diverse partnership of practice to create meaningful landscapes that allow culture to flourish while preserving the ecosystem services on which all civilizations depend.
